Vitiligo occurs when pigment producing cells die or stop functioning.

DEFINITION :-
An acquired disease, characterized by the progressive disappearance of normal pigmentation in variously sized and shaped, white, smooth sharply defined patches with hyper pigmented borders.
SIGN & SYMPTOMS :-
Patchy loss of Skin Colour, usually appears on hands, face and areas around body opening and the genitals.
Premature whitening or graying of the hairs.
( Scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows or beard )
Vitiligo can start at Any Age, but usually appears before age of thirty
TYPES OF VITILIGO :-
1). UNIVERSAL VITILIGO – Discoloration affects nearly all Skin surface.
2). GENERALIZED VITILIGO – Discolored patches often progress similarly on corresponding body parts ( Symmetrically )
3). LOCALIZED ( FOCAL) VITILIGO – This is one or only a few areas of body.
4). ACROFACIAL VITILIGO – Affected Skin is on the face & hands, around body openings, such as EYE’s , NOSE and EAR’s.
CAUSE-
Vitiligo occurs when pigment producing cells ( melanocytes) die or stop producing Melanin – The pigment that gives Skin, hair & eye’s colour. The involved patches of Skin become lighter or white.
It occurs in Trophical & Dark Races.
ANATOMICAL CHANGES – Hypertrophy followed by atrophy of pigment in the whitish spots. While Brownish Spot shows hyper pigmentation.
PRE DISPOSING FACTOR –
(1) Extreme heat or cold
(2) Local injuries

OTHER HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDIES
Psoralea Cory 3x – 5 drops daily is an excellent remedy for vitiligo. It is used externally in the form of oil or Gel. After applying the oil , exposure to sun rays must be avoided
Sulphur 30 for those with philosophical mind set, suffer from mental fatigue and absent mindedness. They take little or no care for their physical appearance and even show aversion to bathing
Tuberculinum 200 – Treatment should be started with this remedy. A dose of 200 potency should be given every month.
Ars Sulph Flav 6 – Vitiligo especially at mucocutaneous junction (involving both typical skin and mucous membrane). It is one of the top remedies for vitiligo.
Hydrocotyle 3x – If Ars sulph flav fails this remedy may be tried. It should be used for a long time.
Calcarea Carb 30 for Vitiligo with milky white spots on skin. These white spots can appear anywhere on the body. There is a tendency to free perspiration over the head, neck and chest.
Arsenic Album 30 effective remedy for vitiligo in persons prone to dry, rough skin. The skin shows whitish spots and skin is dry, dirty and rough. The skin complaint alternating with respiratory complaints like Asthma.
Sepia 30 for those showing indifferent approach towards life and family.
Nitric Acid 30 -Vitiligo especially at mucocutaneous junction. Discoloured zigzag patches on the skin. The base looks like raw flesh.
Diet in Vitiligo
Foods To Avoid:
1) Avoid sour food :
• Avoid lemonades, lemon, oranges, tomatoes, sour fruits, etc.
• Avoid pickles, sauces, ketchup, raw mango, curd, etc.
• Avoid over-fermented foods, such as over-fermented idli or dosa batter, sweets, etc.
• Avoid foods which contain vinegar and soy sauces like Chinese food
• Ripe fruits which are not sour may be consumed
2) Avoid seafood
• Avoid fish, prawns, crabs, lobsters, and shrimps in your diet.
3) At Life Force, we encourage vitiligo patients to avoid non-veg food, foods with artificial colors and preservatives, canned foods, etc. for a better recovery.
4) Avoiding a gluten-rich diet and milk helps an overall recovery.
