ASCARIASIS IN CHILDREN AND COMPLETE DRUG PICTURE OF CINA
Ascaris lumbricoids worms known as the “small intestinal roundworms”, which is a type of parasitic worm, is the most common affecting worm in the human population. It affects hbhumans causing the disease commonly known as ascariasis.
The signs and symptoms of the nematode infection by Ascaris lumbricoides may include the following:
• Abdominal discomfort.
• Abdominal cramping.
• Abdominal swelling (especially in children)
• Fever.
• Coughing and/or wheezing.
• Nausea.
• Vomiting.
• Passing roundworms and their eggs in the stool.

Introduction :-
Cina, well known as the “WORM REMEDY”, especially for children is one of the monumental treasures discovered by Hahnemann. Although Homoeopathy does not believe in specificity, here is a drug which is very near to the specific remedy for worm affection in children. With the inclusion of this remedy in our Materia Medica we have an infallible and permanent solution for ailments brought on by worm.
Guiding symptoms :-
•Cina is pre-eminently a WORM remedy as it causes all the symptoms which characterise helminthiasis, mental, bodily and nervous, such as:
1. grinding of teeth,
2. constant digging and boring of nose,
3. screaming during sleep,
4. indigestion, nausea and or vomiting,
5. nocturnal enuresis,
6. pain in abdomen and
7. mental irritability extending even to convulsions.
•A marked feature running through Cina is TOUCHINESS mentally and physically. Mental touchiness is manifested by irritability, Whereas physical touchiness is marked by sensitiveness in skin of scalp, hands, feet, etc.
•Canine hunger, but it has alternating canine hunger and complete loss of appetite.
•Complaints which are concomitant to yawning, coming on whenever one yawns (Guernsey).
•Intense circumscribed redness of cheek (Nash).
•Aphonia from exposure to cold air when Acon., Spongia and Phos., have failed.
•Desire for sweets and various indigestible things.
•Patient sleeps in knee elbow position.
•Even carrying does not give relief to the patient.(Carrying gives relief, Chamomilla).
•Clean tongue (Ipecac., Digit.).
•MIND :- Mentally the patient is highly irritable, peevish, very cross and ill humored Does not want to be touched or looked at, cannot bear anyone to come near him. Wants various things, but. when offered flatly refuses (Bryonia, Chamomilla, Kreosote, Staph.).
•Ailments from: Worms, specially round worms, taking sweets, over eating, or eating indigestible things e.g. coal, charcoal, chalk, stone chips, etc.
•HEADACHE : Headache alternating with pain in abdomen. Worse by study or meditation and relieved by stooping. Nose. Constant boring and digging at the nose, always pick up the nose. Itching and rubbing of nose, due to worm trouble.
•GASTRO-INTESTINAL:
•Tongue: Cina patient generally has clean tongue, with white papillae raised on red edges.
•Stomach: Canine hunger. Hungry soon after a full meal. There is great desire for sweets and different, indigestible things. There may also be spasmodic cramping pain in the stomach. All gastro-intestinal symptoms are aggravated from taking sweets. With the above-mentioned symptoms, there may be diarrhoea and vomiting with clean tongue.
•In diarrhoea, the color of the stool is white, thin and watery with-undigested food particles in it.
•Concomitant symptoms are: Boring of nose, grinding of teeth, irritability of mind, with nocturnal enuresis.
•ABDOMEN: Distended and hard from worm troubles. Cina patient wants to lie on abdomen to get relief. There may be crampy spasmodic pain in abdomen with gnawing sensation.
•URINARY: Patient, usually a child, passes turbid urine which turns MILKY and semi-solid after sometime. White and turbid urine, passing involuntarily. In children, usually suffering from worms there may be nocturnal enuresis
•COUGH: Consequent upon worm Infestation, there is dry cough with sneezing, spasmodic gagging in the morning.
•Cough is aggravated from movement and speaking (Bry). Cina can also be thought of in the case of pertusis (whooping cough) in children after Drosera hits relieved some of the symptoms. Furthermore for children, Cina is to be frequently used as an epidemic remedy for whooping cough, while ad require other drugs
•Cina is also capable of curing aphonia from exposure when Aconite, Spongia and Phosphorus have failed.
•SKIN: There is great sensitiveness of touch. Scalp is very sensitive to touch, particularly during typhoid fever.
CINA BABY
Cina is particularly adapted to the babies who suffer from worms.
The baby is having HIGHLY IRRITABLE TEMPERAMENT, All the complaints are caused due to WORM IRRITATION especially. Ascaris lumbricoides, due to which the baby always grinds the teeth and bores the nose or rubs ‘the nose on the pillow or against the shoulder of the nurse.
Baby looks very pale with dark hair and complexion. There is whitish, bluish appearance around the mouth with dark ring around the eyes. Sickly I baby with one cheek red and the other pale cheek red and hot, the other pale and cold-Cham.).
The baby starts screaming during sleep and weeps pitifully after waking up. While sleeping, the baby grinds the teeth due to worm irritation and bores their nose. Passes urine while sleeping.
Mentally the baby is highly irritable, peevish, cross and ill-humoured; does not want to be touched or looked at: cannot bear to have any one near him; wants many things but refuses everything when offered (Cham, Bry., Staph., Kreosote). Even carrying does not give relief (Carrying gives relief-Cham.).
The baby is VERY HUNGRY; wants to eat all the time, very hungry soon after a full meal
Baby wants to lie on abdomen while sleeping. There is great desire for sweets and indigestible things and aversion to mother’s milk.
Due to irritation from the worms, the child may often get an attack of convulsion, especially during sleep. In addition, there may be crampy and spasmodic pain in abdomen.
Such child usually suffers from diarrhoea, caused by taking sweets; the character of stool being watery, thin, white containing undigested food particles with clean tongue.
Such children may also have nocturnal enuresis due to worm irritation; turbid when passing, but turns milky after sometime.
